Quote of the day
“I am America. I am the part you don’t recognize. But get used to me. Black, confident, cocky; my name, not yours; my religion, not yours; my goals, my own; get used to me.“

Well amen to that!!
This quote reminds me of a recent debate that I had with a close friend regarding braids and the professional arena. I am of the opinion that it should not matter whether I sport an afro, braids or a relaxer to work (I believe in what India Arie said). My friend, however, is of the belief that I should tread softly and let the good people get used to having their first black attorney in the office before I shock them with the braided hair.
Does someone have the manual on how long I have to wait before my hair does not look a hot mess because I went to the gym i the morining and didn’t have time to re-do it before I had to be in the office!!! When can I be free to be me?!
As I am one day away from starting my new job as an associate attorney in a souther law firm I am thinking about plopping myself down in a chair and getting my braids. When do I stop making concessions and start making demands!!!
